How to change App settings to adjust to the notch design in the new 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro

Apples has recently released updated models for 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro. And even though they have impressive specs, there is a glaring flaw in their design as pointed out by YouTuber Quinn Nelson.

In his tweet, Quinn pointed out how the menubar items of certain apps hid behind the notch because of this flaw in it’s design. Also, there are some inconsistencies with the mouse pointer’s behavior when you take it near the notch.

Apple listened to the complaints, and responded with a workaround for those misbehaving apps. Here’s what you need to do to fix the issue with the notch in your 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro:

  1. Close the app that is posing this notch issue
  2. Click on Applications in Finder, and locate this app
  3. Once found, select this app
  4. Now click on File, and then click on Get Info
  5. In this window, under General section, find the checkbox that says “Scale to fit below built-in camera” and check it

That’s it! Now, your MacBook will automatically scale down the display to fit below the notch. Also, all the apps that share the same workspace will now appear below the camera until you quit the scaled app. Apple has also added a subtle transition animation when you are switching between modes and you can check the feature in action below:

This is a temporary workaround, and hopefully Apple will come up with something more permanent where users won’t have to change the settings in each app. Till then, this should work fine!
