[SOLVED] Error code 0x8007007f during Windows 11 installation

Windows 11 is now officially available, and can be downloaded from the Microsoft website. However, a majority of users are complaining about Windows 11 installation getting stuck at 71% and then getting the 0x8007007f error. So, we decided to do a little root cause analysis and came up with a solution for this error.

Cause of error 0x8007007f

The 0x8007007f error occurs when users are trying to install Windows 11 via the Microsoft Installation Assistant. Users can encounter this error even if they are trying to install Windows 11 on supported hardware. This error is probably being caused by a conflict with the Windows 10 UAC permission for the installer, storage space and drivers. It is to be noted that this is a generic error code, and does not provide much detail about the cause of the error. It halts the Windows 11 installation, and crashes the Windows 11 Installation Assistant.

Solution for error 0x8007007f

Error 0x8007007f can be solve by 2 main methods. If the first one doesn’t work, you can go for the second method as listed below:

  1. Try to reboot your PC after it has crashed with error 0x8007007f, and then launch the Windows 11 Installation Assistant but with Admin privileges. This should resolve the error in majority of the cases
  2. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to install Windows 11 the hard way. Download the Windows 11 ISO file, create a bootable USB using any utility like UNetbootin, and then install a fresh copy of Windows 11 using that bootable USB

Users may encounter another error, as given below, while installing Windows 11 apart from error 0x8007007f:

Ox8COF0830 — ox2W03 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during INSTALL_UPDATES operation

This error is mainly caused by faulty drivers. As of now we don’t have any solution for this second error, however, you can try to solve it by updating your system drivers. Hope this helped you to install Windows 11 on your PC by solving this error.
